What is Home Automation?
Home Automation is a home set-up that is integrated with internet-connected devices that can be programmed and controlled remotely, either via an app or a smart device. These devices can then be used to automate and schedule certain tasks and actions, either individually or by working together. Smart homes are part of the ‘Internet of Things (IoT)’ and therefore when all connected and operating in tandem, can share relevant usage data to perform automated actions. Smart home automation enables a user or household to control all of their smart devices, systems and technologies from one control panel, usually in the form of an App or smartphone.

How Home Automation works?
Home automation systems utilize Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Bluetooth, or Z-Wave to facilitate seamless communication between the hub and devices. It uses a network of connected devices and software to automate and control home functions. This network can be managed through a smart controller or virtual assistant such as Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or Apple HomeKit.
These devices allow you to control household objects, such as a simple light bulb, through your voice via an app. Thus, home automation systems allow you to control the heating system of your home or schedule the lighting automation system to turn on while you are away.
Home automation systems can work in 3 ways:
- Remote control of devices via an app
- Automation and connection of devices, such as alarm systems, motion sensors and cameras
- Remotely turn on and/or off any moving object
